Election Procedures
Per the California Elections Code, a general district election is held to choose a successor for each elective officer whose term will expire on the first Friday in December following the election to be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in each even-numbered year.
The Kensington Fire Protection District Board of Directors passes a resolution ordering the election in June of each even-numbered year. Contra Costa County Election Department (http://www.cocovote.us/) sets the timeline for the filing of nomination papers, the extended nomination period, publishing of voter pamphlet materials, and the estimate of costs for publishing.
In the event a Board member resigns prior to the fulfillment of his/her term, the KFPD Board of Directors can either appoint a Director or call an election within 60 days to fulfill that term, or the County Board of Supervisors will appoint a Director within 90 days.
If you are interested in serving on the Kensington Fire Protection District Board of Directors that meets monthly on the second Wednesday of each month, we welcome you to attend our Board meetings for further information.
